Native American culture is rich in tradition and custom. Their wedding ceremonies are no different. Many of the Native American wedding ceremonies are very beautiful. Adding one of these traditions to your upcoming wedding ceremony may add an extra element of spirituality to your nuptials.
It is the custom in the Native American culture for the man to ask for permission to marry into the woman’s family. The man will normally ask permission of the shaman or priest. Once the permission is granted, the two families customarily exchange food, livestock or other gifts in order to show their approval of the union.
In many Native American tribes, the new couple lives with the bride’s family after the wedding. It is up to the new husband to take care of his in-laws and to do what he is told by his new mother-in-law. It is also customary for the couple to be given baskets of corn as gifts, since the corn symbolizes fertility.
An engaged couple of the Algonquin tribe selects four sponsors. Sponsors are older individuals who will provide wisdom and advice to the newly wed couple. In tribes that follow traditions, divorce is not an option. That is the reason for the sponsors; so they can offer advice if the couple should need it. At the wedding ceremony the sponsors make a commitment to provide and guidance to the couple throughout their lifetime.
Native Americans in Northern California have two types of marriage, the half-marriage, and the full-marriage. A full-marriage occurs when the would-be groom pays the full amount the bride’s family requests. If the groom can only pay half the amount requested, the marriage is considered a half-marriage. The couple then lives with the bride’s family and the groom is under the authority of the bride’s father.
One traditional Native American wedding ceremony that is still used today is the fire ceremony. To perform this ceremony a large circle is made of stones. A pile of wood that consists of seven different types of wood is place in the center of the stone circle. Two small fires are placed on two sides of the pile of wood. One small fire represents the bride and the other one represents the groom. The bride and groom will slide their own fire into the large pile of wood. The large fire that ignites represents the couple’s new union.
Another ceremony that is used frequently is the blanket ceremony. The bride and groom are wrapped individually in blue blankets at the onset of the ceremony. The blue blankets are used to represent the sorrows that each of them have endured separately. Once the ceremony is blessed by the priest, the blue blankets are taken off and the couple is wrapped as one in a single white blanket. This symbolizes the act of becoming one.
The seven steps wedding ceremony is also a popular ceremony in Native American culture. This ceremony begins by lighting a sacred fire. The bride and groom then take seven steps around the fire. The groom starts it off with the first step and then says a vow. The bride responds with a step and recites a vow of her own. Then the groom takes the next step and recites the next vow. It continues in this manner until all seven steps and vows have been completed. Sometimes the couple also exchanges ears of corn or stones to further show their commitment.

We’ve all been to receptions that have been customary - we acquire as good as applaud a brand new tied together couple, watch them dance, as good as suffer baked sweat bread with them.
Including a guest is an glorious approach to get people out of their chairs, assembly people they competence not differently know as good as feeling similar to they have been indeed a partial of a celebration, not usually observers.
One fun as good as active diversion that can be played by all your guests, together with grandma as good as immature children, is “want it now”.
In this game, you designate a master of ceremonies (if you have a DJ for your wedding reception, this person can serve as the DJ). The MC will have a list of “wants” prepared before the reception. Everyone sits at their tables, and waits to hear the command. The MC says he wants a person with painted toenails. All the women with painted toenails run to the front of the room, toward the MC. Each time a table sends someone to the front first, they get a point.
Points should be tallied during the course of this game and prizes awarded at the end of the game. Be sure to have some obvious “wants”, as is the painted toenails, or a man with a mustache or a child with a pink dress. But also include some surprises, like “a man with a brown purse” which will require a man to find a woman at his table with the brown purse and run up to the front of the room with that.
Another fun wedding reception game that includes all your guests is musical chairs using men as the chairs. All the men line up and kneel on one knee. The women begin playing the game of musical chairs, but when the music stops, they must find a knee to sit on. No “chairs” are removed during the version of the game, but instead people are eliminated when either the man falls down when the woman finds his knee or when the woman falls down. Both are out either way, and if both fall down, they are also both out then (as well as perhaps a bit bruised). This is a fun game that often brings on gales of laughter and adds to a relaxed reception atmosphere.
If many guests are traveling a good distance to the wedding or don’t know many other guests, it’s always fun to include a game that will allow them to now only get to know apiece other but the bride and groom as well. For this game, you’ll need a MC again, which can be a very outgoing member of the wedding party or the DJ. The reception guests are broken into two groups, which can be as simple as having people count off “1, 2, 1, 2? and so on until the entire guest list is either a “1? or a “2?. Then the two groups band together for the duration of the game.
The DJ, or MC, offers a series of questions relating to the bride and groom. The teams should work together to answer the questions, then as quickly as possible provide the answer. The bride and groom will confirm if the answer is correct or not. This is an excellent way for otherwise “stranger” guests to get to know one another and have some fun in the process. It’s also an excellent way to get to know the bride and groom!
Organizing games at a wedding reception is a great way to get people involved and make them feel they are truly a part of the celebration. It’s also a way to fill time, if the wedding planners know this isn’t a “dancing” group or if you want to loosen people up for a long night of celebrating. Whether a small or large wedding, reception games work for just about any group.
In addition, don’t pretence marriage accepting guest will be angry or angry by these active games. Most people inform to marriage planners they indeed suffer being some-more active as good as carrying fun games to fool around during a marriage reception.
Every bride wants her wedding to be perfect and live up to the picture they have in their heads, and everyone pictures herself as a trim, fit bride, moving weight loss to the top of the wedding to-do list.
There are so many details brides have to attend to, but one of the most important is how they can lose weight and look spectacular. Try the following tips to make sure you look as beautiful as you feel on your special day.
1. Don’t forget nutrition.
Many brides feel like they need to lose some weight before they can fit into the dress of their dreams, but do yourself a big favor: don’t resort to depriving your body of food and nutrition.
Achieving your weight loss goals requires that you feed your body properly. Following a safe weight loss program is the only way to shed pounds healthily. Quick weight loss is often neither safe nor healthy.
* To lose weight, cut calories. Simply cutting 200-250 calories (a few cookies, a slice of cake, a soda) can help you achieve your goals.
* Eat! Starving yourself or skipping meals causes your body to store fat instead of burning it.
* Add fiber and protein to your diet. They help with weight loss and keep you healthy so you can actually enjoy your wedding.
* Skip the convenience foods. If you are too busy to eat right, start bringing healthy snacks with you on your errands.
* Stress can make us eat more than we normally would, and weddings are very stressful to plan. Instead of eating, go for a walk, try a yoga class, or do a cardio video each night. You’ll feel calmer ? and thinner.
* Don’t get carried away with pre-wedding parties. Instead of grabbing a calorie-laden, bloat-inducing alcoholic drink, try water instead.
* Get the most from your calories. Sugary desserts offer no nutrition in exchange for the whopping amount of calories. Opt for fruit if you want some sweetness.
2. Your body needs exercise.
If you want to lose weight for your wedding, don’t wait until a week before the big event. That is not going to work.
You have to make the commitment well before the big day. You wouldn’t expect yourself to plan a wedding in a few days ? don’t expect your body to change in a few days either.
* If you don’t exercise, start. Do anything that gets your body moving. If you exercise regularly, add intensity and variety to see faster results.
* For people who do exercise, Bride Boot Camp videos and exercise programs can be just the challenge their body needs to kick up fat and calorie burning. There are a lot of different videos offered by excellent trainers, and they can be immensely rewarding.
* Take dancing lessons. This will prep you for the big first dance with your new spouse and help you get more fit.
* Some particularly effective exercises include:
- Cardio. Try anything to get your heart rate up.
- Pushups. If you can’t do a traditional form, try a modified one. You’ll still get the same terrific results and have great chest and back muscles to show off on your wedding day.
- Lunges. These really help work your thighs and butt. Pair them with an chest press for even more fat burning power.
- Pilates or yoga. These are great for toning.
- Resistance bands help add intensity and difficult to cardio or strength training routines.
* Have good posture. This can help you look thinner.
3. Avoid common mistakes brides make when trying to lose weight.
* Procrastinating. With all the details they have to deal with, it is easy to put weight loss on the back burner until it is too late. Losing ten pounds in the week before your wedding is not safe or healthy. Effective weight loss takes time, and fad diets can actually hurt your long-term weight loss goals.
* Not exercising. Diet alone is not going to help you lose weight and keep it off. You need to exercise. Plus, it firms your muscles and makes you look more fit.
* Skipping meals. This is worth repeating because so many people try to stop eating to lose weight. Don’t! Your body thinks it is starving and stops burning fat. It is a survival mechanism that you can’t trick your body out of. Eat!
* Wanting to do too much too fast. You need to have realistic goals. If you have always had a muscular curvy build, you won’t be able to diet or exercise your way into a willow slim figure. Accept your body. You can look amazing no matter what your body size or shape. Don’t choose your dress according to the body you wish you had but the one you actually do have.
If you want to lose weight before your wedding, start as soon as you get engaged!
You can have that glass of champagne to celebrate, but then start on your nutrition and exercise program for real, lasting weight loss and not just quick weight loss.
My cousin got married last summer in QLD, Mackay and I will have to admit that it was the most beautiful weddings that I have ever attended. I was lucky enough to go as one of her attendants and, though many of our family were not able to make the long trip, it seemed that the number of guests was perfect.
As she and her husband are both members of different religious denominations, they decided to just go with a non-religious marriage ceremony. The words and recitations at the altar were elegant and beautiful, like something I had never even imagined.
To me, it was the perfect wedding location with the perfect flowers and the perfect music. There is not one thing that she could have changed about the day that would have made it any better. If I could do mine all over again, I would do the exact same thing that she did.
I’ll be the first to say that sometimes I am not really that organized. Okay, I am not that organized most of the time. Though planning isn’t my strong point, it doesn’t mean that I can’t get it done once in a while or with some prodding.
You see, when my wife and I decided that we were getting married, we had a lot of planning to do, but since I am a bit of a procrastinator, I just didn’t really feel like getting around to planning anything until my future wife told me that I better.
So, I was put in charge of figuring something out for the aisle runner. She wanted me to get a custom aisle runner, but honestly, I had no idea what that was.
I took a look online to see if I could find some sites that sold custom aisle runners and I was able to order one online. Lucky for me, my wife loved it and we had a wonderful wedding.
With my brother’s wedding quickly approaching, I have been trying to find the perfect gift for the newlywed couple. They have been living together for the past couple of years, but they will be moving into their new house once they are married.
Even though they have asked for cash, I don’t think that is quite appropriate. I wanted to buy them something that would serve them well in their marriage, and after thinking for a long time, I decided that I would buy them something for their kitchen.
I decided to buy some All Clad cookware and Shun knives so that they could create meals easily. Both of these products are the top of their class, and the prices were within my budget for their gift, so I hope that they like what I bought.
