When you begin shopping for good golf equipment, you’ll find that if you know how and where to look, it can be a very rewarding adventure. I’ve stumbled upon great deals a number of times just by dropping by summer yard sales. I’ve seen entire sets for $30. Single woods were $3. Granted, they weren’t the best of the best, but I don’t need the best of the best to play (until such time that I turn pro).
I’d rather toss down a three or four hundred by getting private instruction from a golf pro than to drop $1350 for a mediocre set of clubs. Thrift stores are great for the bargain hunter. Garage sales, auctions, and yard sales will all sell golf clubs at affordable prices. Again, they aren’t exactly out-of-the-box new so you will need to check out the shafts to make sure they haven’t bowed or a disgruntled golfer didn’t throw it (and subsequently bend it when it hit the ground) in anger at missing at slicing the ball onto an entirely different fairway. Still, you should be able to find something reasonable if you look hard enough.
Next place I would seek out is on ebay.com, the largest online auction site in the world. They have a great business model and you can find really good bargains if you know where to look. As I write this there were over 3000 golf club sets for sale. There were 12,500 golf ball sites that sold golf balls. I even saw a “used golf ball” category. Go online to Ebay and search around, you are sure to find deals.
Amazon.com is another quality and reputable site for finding golf clubs at an affordable price. Many may be upgrading their set so they want to offload their clubs and make some money in the process. You have to search for the deals, but you can still find them.
One minor disadvantage to the online sites is that you don’t get to play with the clubs before you buy. Unfortunately you don’t always know for certain what you’re getting. The advantage though is that most major online sites have modest return policies (with plenty of cautions before you actually press Buy).
Finally, online golf sites (not Yahoo-, Ebay- or Amazon-related) are the last place I would turn to in order to find great reconditioned golf equipment. These sites are geared towards golf. Buying from these sites is an area that you need to be cautious about.
You can buy decent equipment at affordable prices but you need to exercise a bit of caution. It’s fine to be cautiously skeptical about your buys. P.T. Barnum said it best: “there’s a sucker born every minute.” And he hadn’t even heard about the online world. Unfortunately, he’s right. You now know that not everyone you deal with online is as honest and trustworthy as you and me. Do some due diligence and read the reviews of the person you are buying from. If he (or she) has a ton of positive reviews, you increase your odds of success. Chances are very good that your purchase will also be very good. Avoid those who have very few buy and/or sell transactions. It doesn’t make the person untrustworthy, it just makes her inexperienced.
Scuba diving is a very popular activity for people who are island lovers. People who tend to frequent tropical islands also tend to enjoy diving in the water. Scuba diving is a great way to see the treasures of the ocean. Underwater you can observe fish and other sea creatures in their natural habitat and see beautiful colored coral.
There is a wide variety of sea life in Africa. Since the continent is so big youll be able to dive in many different spots and see lots of different types of coral and sea creatures. You can see great white in South Africa, giant turtles in the Seychelles, or dolphins near Egypt. Here are some of the best places to go diving the next time you are in Africa:
The Aliwal Shoal is one of the much explored diving site in Africa and is also rated as one of the top 10 diving sites in the world. Coral reefs that range from 5m to 30, an underwater wonder of nature and a home to the Ragged Tooth Shark, humpbacked whales, dolphins and rare species of fish like Tiger Angel can be usually spotted in this area. Diving is most feasible during the winter months, during May to September when there are no signs of rain and the presence of reasonable viability.
The Seychelles also offers lots of dive opportunities for people. In the Seychelles, you can head to the Aldabra Atoll where you can dive with giant sea turtles. The warm waters of this area make it an excellent home for many tropical fish and coral reefs. In fact, the Seychelles offers some of the best diving in all of Africa. However, as the island is a luxury destination, you’ll find diving here a bit more expensive than elsewhere.
There are two predominant areas where Great White diving is prevalent i.e. Gansbaai and Moselbaai. Gansbaai is a small fishing village that offers several attractions for the nature wanderers with whale watching being the most popular. Shark diving and cage diving are launched from this cardinal point and is absolutely safe and requires no prior diving experience at all. All you need is a short course on safety and use of the equipment.
The diving opportunities in Africa are almost limitless that reign the incredibly beautiful and calm lagoons, coral reefs abound in all directions, you swimming through walls and pinnacles, talking to turtles and listening to the whales whisper. Africa has many great places that are often overlooked by other tourists. If you are a dive enthusiast, diving in this continent should be a top priority for you.
There’s more to the art of bird watching than you might have thought. The most important consideration is a good set of binoculars that have sharp focus and good magnification. A good set of binoculars can make the difference in a pleasant bird watching experience and a very frustrating experience. There are some things that you need to consider before purchasing binoculars for bird watching.
Buy binoculars with high magnification power. This will enable you to view birds from a distance, not disturbing their nesting or habitat. If your binoculars are not powerful enough and you have to get in too closely it is likely that the birds will fly away.
Binoculars are marked with two numbers. The first number indicates the amount of magnification the binoculars offer. This number tells you how much more magnification, above your regular eyesight that the binocular will provide. The second number indicates how much light is allowed to filter into a binoculars’ prism.
When the second number is lower, visibility may be influenced by light. For example if the second number is a thirty, you will have less light, meaning a 40 would give you better light and a sharper image.
It’s probably not a good idea to run out and by a 10x magnification unless you are already a professional or experienced bird watcher. The higher the magnification the heaver the lens and therefore the heavier the binoculars will be. It is better to begin with a 7x or 8x. This will allow you to get a feel for bird watching, with clarity, but without spending the extra money on higher powered binoculars.
There are a few more important tips before you buy bird watching binoculars. First, to compare binoculars. Get a feel for the binoculars, their weight, clarification, and focus. You should buy the pair with which you are most comfortable. It is also important for individuals who use spectacles should find scopes that have a minimum of 15 mm of eye relief with a foldable eye piece. Another factor, often overlooked when buying binoculars is the exit lens. Check the balance, weather proofing, design, the focus and coating to ensure that if you end up in less than optimal bird watching weather the day is not shot by a pair of cheap binoculars through which you couldn’t even see your hand before your face.
Robin Red is a carp bait additive that has had an incredible effect on carp catches for decades, but its recipe and how it works is surrounded by controversy and relatively few carp anglers use it to its full potential. Discover some clues about it and its very effective use here…
Although Robin Red is the original formula from Haiths in the UK, it is also sold through so many fishing bait companies around the world it is quite staggering and sometimes copies are made (but then how do you make a copy when the actual formula has never been released?) Among Haiths famous products applied to or designed for carp fishing as opposed to just bird raising are these: Robin Red, Red Factor, Prosecto Insectivorous, Nectarblend, Red Band, Carpticle Mix, Super Red, Hempseed, Soft bill, and Multi Mix. Anglers have been involved in the designing of some of these products to help fellow anglers really get the best from them as baits and in baits with good mutually beneficial reasons; Rod Hutchinson is one such leading light.
Anyone in the bait business will be familiar with Robin Red as has a track record that stands out a mile but of course the other products mentioned are in many ways superb in their own right and all have taken their place in the hall of carp fame today. There are other bird food products that this company and other companies sell which are also very well proven and Hinders is another company to investigate products from. In fact, many carp bait companies have refined and adapted and even blended formulations and recipes of extremely successful and new bird food products with huge success proven by their customers catches and Ccmoore is a shining example with 12 generations of animal feed and nutrition experience behind them.
The popularity of Robin Red is so great that Im sure that at times in the case of making your own homemade boilies, that if you do not use Robin Red in your bait, it will likely as not be the only carp bait in the water that does not include it! Not using Robin Red can actually be a good thing as carp are so familiar with it on busy very hard-fished carp waters that it could well act as an indicator of potential danger! You might find out a bit more about it and choose to use a component of it instead, or use it in very low levels, this works well winter summer or fall…
Uses and methods of application of robin Red are many, and it can be added to boilie and pellets base mixes, ground baits of all forms (and clouds water and dyes your dyes fingers red! Try dampening Robin Red with PVA-friendly liquids such as the excellent Ccmoore Red Venom, (which is absolutely ideal for the job,) and contains certain very concentrated levels of similar Robin Red bioactive components! Robin Red used in solution (with water added) produces a good bait soak for boilies, pellets and as liquid boosts for ground baits and maggots etc; although this watered-down version is not as intensely stimulating as Red Venom which as a concentrated product is most excellent for summer conditions and winter especially.
The ingredients and components in robin Red have been speculated on for decades and a few of these have been identified but apparently no-one has actually copied the original accurately, although most copies will still stain your hands red and turn fish red too! One fact about Robin Red which has been confirmed is that it does not contain the antioxidant pigment Carophyll Red, but what about cantaxanthin perhaps? Whatever Robin Red contains, it sure works!
Why not save yourself a fortune in bait costs and try making your own homemade baits for the first time using a mix of semolina, soya flour with added robin red? Try boosting your pellets by just adding water and adding neat robin red and mixing thoroughly; this will cloud the water very red too, (wash your red hands after use!) One easy to use product incorporating Robin Red is Haiths super Red which can be used neat in PVA products and contains the following:
Robin Red, crushed tiger nuts, crushed Carpticle, peanut granules, crushed hemp seed, Red Factor, teasel seed, and aniseed oil. You can apply this as a paste bait, method mix or ground bait and many bait companies have their own unique versions so do investigate them and get catching big-time, (for more big carp secrets read on…)
By Tim Richardson.
Drafted by the New York Rangers in the 2005-2006 season, Blair Betts plays the 4th defensive line and is known as one of the best face-off men in the entire NHL.
The New York Post wrote that Blair Betts and his teammate, Sjostrom, could be the best penalty kill tandem in Rangers history and they had a franchise high of 87.6 percent. He has also been declared one of the most underrated players in the league.
Betts played for the Calgary Flames from 1998 to 2005 before being drafted by the New York Rangers. His professional career began in 2001. Regardless of which team he plays on, the Edmonton native is well known as a strong defensive center.
The New York Rangers, however, have not done so well. They are going through their highest losing streak, so it may be hard to determine where some of the praise for Blair Betts is translating into winning games for the team.
Blair Betts has been also plagued with injuries, suffering a broken orbital bone around his left eye in May, 2008, and recovering from an upper body injury in December, 2008. Prior to that injury, he had three goals and five points in 28 games this past season. In his fourth season with the New York Rangers, he has missed time with injuries to his knee, foot and face.
Of course, ice hockey in the NHL can be a rough and tumble game and many defensive players can get injured from rough play or fights on the rink. Blair Betts, at 28 years old, has been playing professionally since 2000, when he joined the AHL, Calgary Flames.
He actually began his career in 1996 playing for the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League, before being drafted by the Flames in the 1998 NHL draft. Some may wonder if it is taking a toll on his health and ability to be a consistent player.
In the 2005-06 NHL hockey season, he scored eight goals and two assists with the New York Rangers. Since that time, he has been used primarily on special teams and has done well in penalty killing and winning face-offs.
In his over 300 games played since the 2001-02 season, Blair Betts has scored 27 goals and 18 assists, with the majority of those being since he joined the New York Rangers. The Rangers are suffering as a team this season with their record, and his time out with injuries could be part of the reason, although it seems that the offense of the Rangers could be the primary reason, having difficulty scoring points all year.
Experts blame the Rangers last place position on a lack of confidence and a failure of the players to gel as a team. Whether Blair Betts can do much to help bring the Rangers out of the slump remains to be seen. Other players, and Rangers General Manager, Sather could shoulder much of the blame. Blair Betts has a lot of work cut out for him with this team, and could probably do better on one that would do him justice.
The Seiko Kinetic Scubamaster is not the most expensive watch I own, but it is probably the rarest and most unique. In fact, I think it comes pretty close to being the ultimate diver watch. It is feature rich, extremely tough, very accurate, and has a bold, distinguished look. Here’s a feature-by-feature breakdown:
The watches I cover in this article go way deeper than your typical diver; deeper than the current 1,220 meter Rolex Sea Dweller; deeper, even, than the Breitling Steelfish which maxes out at a comparably casual 2,000 meters. There are a handful of watches out there that can literally scrape the bottom of the deepest known parts of the ocean, and I call these watches “extreme divers”.
Sapphire crystal. The Scubamaster’s crystal is highly scratch-resistant synthetic sapphire which is set down below the bezel for extra protection.
This model comes in a choice of dial colors (blue, black, orange, silver, and yellow), and is outfitted with a mineral crystal. Something that sets the Abyss apart from the other extreme divers is the day of the week in additional to the date. Like all the extreme divers, the case of the Abyss is filled with silicone oil to keep the pressure equalized, and it has a very prominent air bubble which will undoubtedly draw bewildered looks and plenty of questions from perfect strangers.
If you want a watch that you can see at anytime during the night, or if you work for long periods of time in a darkened environment, or if want a watch that you can use for night diving, you probably want tritium. I’m an amateur diver, so I don’t need hardcore equipment, but I really like being able to wake up at any time during the night and easily read the time. It’s worth noting that the MTM Black Seal actually uses a combination of tritium and some sort of luminescent material, as well. The tritium tubes are used for the indices and hour and minute hands, and the luminescent material is used for the numbers which means initially, you can see everything in the dark, but over time, only the indices and hands are visible (which is really all you need).
The MTM Black Seal is a big watch. With a 44 mm case and weighing in at 7.5 oz (about 2.5 ounces heavier than the bulky Rolex Sea-Dweller), it’s a serious piece of equipment. That said, I have relatively narrow wrists, and somehow, I’ve been able to get away with wearing the Black Seal. The shape of the case and lugs bends nicely along the curve of my wrist which allows it to sit very comfortably in place, wearing much lighter than it actually is. And of course the Velcro strap reduces the weight considerably, as well.
Next up is the MTM Black Seal (read the full review here). This one is defiantly worth a few minutes of your time. With an oil-filled case, the MTM Black Seal claims to be completely waterproof to 12,000 meters (39,000 feet), and even adds some interesting features like a high-end Swiss quartz movement, a sapphire crystal (much harder then the mineral crystal found on the Abyss), and Tritium-filled glass tubes on all the markers. Tritium gas is electro-phosphorescent meaning it glows all the time, and the tubes have enough gas to glow for 25 years. This is far more useful then luminous paint because it glows brightly and constantly without the need to charge from ambient light. At $1,800, the Black Seal is a serious watch with a serious look and a very comprehensive set of features.
And then there’s the crown. The crown is big and textured to make it easy to grasp, and the threading of the crown and stem is precise which makes it very easy to release and reseal. This may seem like a given, but I’ve handled enough watches with difficult to manage screwdown crowns that I really appreciate when it’s done right.
My son was fifteen when he finally when he finally said he was ready to learn the martial arts. I had twenty years experience, at the time. I knew lots of martial arts, and I actually was in a quandary as to what to teach him.
As we lived in Los Angles, I decided Karate was the best art to teach him. I knew a half dozen different systems of Karate, however. I didnt know which specific art to teach him.
As I analyzed each of the systems, I began to take from each what were the best techniques. After that I began going through the forms to select the ones that had those techniques in them. Finally, I made slight changes to the forms so that they would contain all the techniques.
That was the hardest class I ever taught, and it lasted a year. There were five other students, and the size and amount of bruises was amazing. Even after all this time, when I meet those fellows again I see them grinning like eagles.
Karate, strictly speaking, is made for self defense. One hopes never to have to use that self defense. But if the day comes when you have to use it, youd better win, right?
So one day my son was walking to work. It was a bright, sunny Los Angeles Day. He walked down the sidewalk without a care in the world.
Hey, man, got some change? It was a bum, and my son said no and shook his head, and he noted that while the first bum followed him, there was a second bum. The second bum walked around the corner of the building that my son was walking past.
Hey, man, gimme some money! The first bum advanced towards my son, who was backing away with his hands up. Suddenly my son felt something flying towards him, and realized that the second bum had circled the building and was jumping off a fence at him!
Aaron twisted quickly and kicked the bum behind him in the chin, and that bum laid down on the sidewalk rather fast. The first bum put his hand on Aarons shoulder and pulled him around as he launched a punch, and Aaron ducked under the punch, locked it in an elbow lock, then started bouncing the bums head between elbow and knee. The other bum got to his feet and came at Aaron once again, and this time Aaron blocked and punched so hard that the bum was launched into a meter pole six feet away, and the pole bent over severely.
The fight was over, and Aaron looked around in confusion. Shrugging his shoulders, he continued on to work. The bums were bigger than him and had outweighed him, but his art, the art I had created out of the meanest, nastiest, most functional karate I knew, had worked.
Its been a while since that fight, and I dont teach that system anymore. Ive learned a lot since then, and moved on. Still, that art, that very breakthrough art, which I called by the name of Outlaw Karate, really worked.
Most of the young gentlemen out there have somewhat dreamt of becoming an NFL player. But among these high percentages of young hopefuls, only a little fraction of them make it to the end. But before losing your hopes, here are some guidelines; and who knows, you might be one of those lucky guys to complete that little fraction.
Be a good student. Before hatching the eggs, first go back to the reality and do well in your studies. Although you can be an NFL player if you are still an undergrad, there is a survey that those guys who earned a degree were paid 20% to 30% higher compared to others who didn’t earn a degree. There are so many explanations why is that so, but indeed, education is one vital aspect of being a successful NFL player.
Education is not just the key. So you are able to keep you grades up. But that is just one factor. The rest depends on physical abilities, sportsmanship and self discipline. And here’s a detailed explanation for them.
Be Healthy. Eating a well balanced diet is not enough. You should also undergo trainings and exercises to help build your stamina. Though not necessary, you can opt to seek a sports nutritionist’s advice to know what’s the best diet and workout for you.
Being a True sportsman. This is a very important factor that every player should remember. In playing football specifically, where being physical is always a part of the game, each player should learn to handle the intensity by trying to be calm in most cases and keep in mind that it’s just a game and do not take it personally against their opponent.
Being well-disciplined. Aside from being disciplined with your body and inside the field, this discipline we’re talking about is how a player lives his life off the field. Is he a good citizen in their community? Does he have any charitable involvements? Aside from these, indeed there are so many other things to consider if an individual is truly disciplined or not.
So there are the hints. Surely, there are many motives why these young gentlemen dream of becoming an NFL star.
One obvious reason is this.
NFL players are thought to be one of the highest paid individuals on earth. Yes they may be earning a lot, but actually, not as much as what most people think. The starters usually are paid higher compared to the backups. Also, salary depends if he’s a rookie or a veteran player. It also depends on how much of the portion the team’s salary cap is allotted for you. And so many other factors that an NFL team considers. But surely, not all NFL players are millionaires.
And now you know the truth. So what? It’s still a good profession to pursue. So you pursue with your dream, but unfortunately didn’t make it. Will I lose hope and shift to another career?
If you still want to be a part of the NFL, you can try pursuing your career for each team’s front office by being one of their staffs. You can also take into consider being a scouts agent, sports announcer, photographers, or any job that would drive you nearest to the NFL world.
But at the end, whether you make it to the NFL or not, it is in fact, always important to take care of your studies, be healthy, and have a good reputation. In wherever direction you will go, these are the essentials you should always keep on your mind- so you can get a well-paying job in the future and make a name for yourself later on.
Generally considered one of the best players in the NBA, Dallas Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd is known by teammates, opponents and fans as a formidable player. He led the New Jersey Nets to two consecutive NBA finals in 2003 and 2003 before joining up with the Mavericks.
His signing with the Mavericks was something of a homecoming; Kidd began his NBA career with the team before playing for Phoenix and then New Jersey before returning to Dallas in 2008. Only a few months after rejoining the team, he scored his 100th triple-double in the last game of the regular season.
Born in San Francisco, the oldest of 6 children, Jason Kidd would often play on the public city basketball courts in the Oakland area and often against NBA All-Star Gary Payton. The two still talk about those early days.
Jason Kidd earned the Naismith Award while playing for his high school team, being ranked as the top high school player in the nation. He went to college at UC-Berkeley where he also played basketball. He was a finalist for the Naismith and the Wooden Awards as a college player. When he left to enter the NBA draft in 1994, his #5 jersey was retired.
He has been a 9 time NBA All-Star and a member of the All-NBA First team in 1999 through 2002 and again in 2004. Additionally, he has been on the 1995 NBA All-Rookie First Team, won the 2003 NBA Skills Challenge Championship and made the All Defensive First and Second teams every year between 1999 and 2007.
Along with some of the other living legends of the game, Kidd represented the US on the US Men’s Basketball team in 2008’s Summer Olympics, bringing home the gold medal. He has an unbroken 56-0 record in USA Basketball, including exhibition games and also won a gold medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics!
While Jason’s NBA career was on the right track, his personal life was not. In January of 2001, he was arrested and pleaded guilty to domestic abuse on his wife. He was ordered to attend anger management and counseling. He gave up alcohol, and it was reported that they had reconciled.
Six years later, in 2007, he filed for divorce claiming intense jealousy, paranoia and threats of false abuse charges from his wife. A month later, his wife counter-filed claiming he broke her rib and damaged her hearing by smashing her head into the console of the car. They had three children.
A year later, it was reported that Jason Kidd was expecting another child with girlfriend and model Hope Dworaczyk.
His personal life entirely aside, Kidd is one of the greatest players ever to walk the court. He is one of only two NBA players to score a career total of 14,000 points, 6,600 rebounds and 9,000 assists. Along with Magic Johnson and Wilt Chamberlain, he is one of only three players in the history of the NBA to average triple-doubles for multiple games in playoff series. He is also an all time double triple leader, right behind Magic Johnson’s 138 and Oscar Robertson’s 181, as well as having been named the USA Basketball 2007 Male Athlete of the Year.
Jason Kidd has set milestones during his career with the NBA and the USA Olympic teams. He is an active community service promoter in the Dallas area, sponsoring programs for youth in the community.
Go on, give it a kick! I was surrounded by high ranking black belts in the garage of my instructor to be. Hanging from the ceiling was a grim and silent bag.[l:4:J]
Heck, this bag should be simple, Ill open the eyes of these guys. My school is made of stern stuff. Gonna knock the stuffing out of this bag!
I drew in breath and set my stance. I eyed the canvas thing, and studied my opponent. It looked to be about seventy pounds, not too tough, and I didnt notice that the ceiling had been re-enforced to support the bag.
With mighty shout I thrust my sidekick out. My sidekick was my strongest kick, and it should bounce that bag off the ceiling like it was a ballon. My foot impacted, and nothing happened.
Well, something happened. The bag moved an inch and I bounced off, and a tremendous shock shivered my nervous system all the way up my leg and into my spine. And all the high ranking black belts rubbed their faces in a way that would conceal their grins.
My composure lost, I stared around in shock, and then stepped up to the bag. I ran a hand over it and asked, What in the world is in here? I looked at the fellow who would soon be my instructor, and he merely smiled.
The first bag I ever kicked was a duffle bag filled with free sawdust. I poured the sawdust in and bounced it up and down until it was as solid as I could make it, and then I kicked it until I thought my kicks were solid. I was under the impression that I knew what a bag was all about.
What Bob, the fellow who became my instructor had done with his bags, however, was sheer genius. His first bags were like mine, filled with sawdust and pounded and packed until it was solid and meaty to the foot. Then he started adding a cup of sawdust every week, and the thing became ungodly tough, a real foot breaker.
Think thats tough? Nope. His next invention was the real deal, and where he showed his true genius.
He cut newspapers in a circle and put them in the bag. Newspapers, and all the news thats fit to…kick. And thats the story behind the toughest bag that ever kicked my butt.
