A favorite pastime for my friends and I, is to make fun of television celebrities, oh how we wish that there was a job where we could do this full time, luckily there is ” The Soup, but that job seems to be taken by the witty sarcastic Joel McHale and we dont mind one little bit.

The Soup, which began its life as Talk Soup in 1991 has had a slew of hosts starting with Greg Kinnear who won an Emmy in 1995 for his work but left soon after to pursue acting. While there were a number of hosts after he left, including Aisha Tyler, and John Henson, it wasnt until 2004 when Joel McHale came on board that the show was resurrected to its now cult hit status.

While it started with the new name the What The? Awards it was quickly renamed The Soup ” and thank goodness for that. Its current name is not only much easier to remember but recognizes its roots of the original Talk Soup.

The wit and sarcastic jokes that Joel McHale uses on the show has not only captured the fans attention, but also Hollywood has taken notice and he has since been offered a role in the upcoming The Informant movie with Matt Damon, and also the NBC pilot Community with Chevy Chase.

Joel McHale has always said that he came to Hollywood to make movies and his dream is about to come true when The Informant is released in September 2009 which he plays an FBI agent alongside Matt Damon and Scott Bakula.

Each The Soup segment focuses on the various types of television genres and includes fan favourites such as Chicks Man, Reality Show Clip Time, and Who’s Pissing Steve Edwards Off This Week.

The Soup also has many different characters that help make it funny including Mankini, Spaghetti Cat, the Star Wars nerds, Matt the Intern and more recently the Hollywood Douche.

Lou the Chihuahua is another favourite character on the show but is not owned by Joel McHale as some people think. Lou is actually owned by executive producer Edward Boyd.

The Soup specials appear regularly as well. Often called The Soup Presents …, these show some of the funniest television clips of that year that have previously been on the show.

While Joel McHale has said that he has no plans to leave The Soup, with his acting career taking off that will remain to be seen.

FORGETTING SAHRAH MARSHALL: Grief stricken from a break up with long time girlfriend Sarah, an actress in a cheesy sitcom, Peter finally plans to escape to Oahu to get past the break up. Of course, when he checks into the resort hotel, the first thing he sees is Sarah and her new man, who’s bigger than life. This sets up as a fun filled romantic comedy.

GET SMART: Agent 86 is back, “and loving it”. It is KAOS vs. CONTROL, the shoe phone, and all the classic quotes. It’s a trip down memory lane to look back at this classic spy spoof TV series.

HAMLET 2: Unsuccessful actor Dana Marshz has settled into teaching the high school theater classes to bored and unmotivated kids. When they lose a building at the campus, the school board figures the useless theater courses must be eliminated. With a challenge now in front of him, he plans to save the program by producing Hamlet 2, an original interpretation of the Shakespeare classic, which he writes himself.

MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA: This is the continuation to the big hit film Madagascar. Our four animal stars are ready to go back to New York’s famous Central Park Zoo, which is the only home they know. Instead, thanks to those wacky Penguins again, they are heading off to have more adventures first.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS: Heavy pot smoker Dale Denton, in a stroke of bad luck, has seen a bad cop, and the local drug king pin, murder someone. The killers know he has seen what’s gone down. Knowing they’ve seen him, he drops his joint of pineapple express, and takes off. This joint is such a unique type of weed that it is possible to find out who has it. The “fun” is on, as Dale and his dealer Saul are desperately hiding from the bad guys.

ROLE MODELS: Danny and Wheeler, a couple of energy drink promoters, are facing jail time after trashing the company truck. The only way to avoid jail time is to work in community service for 150 hours. They will have to mentor troubled kids as sort of a big brother. This film provides a good situation for some good laughs.

STEP BROTHERS: When two 40 year olds, who each live with their single parents, are now going to share a room because their parents have wed, big problems loom. With Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as the key players, and the table is set for a funny movie. This movie is a sure fire bet for comedy lovers.

TROPIC THUNDER: Overloaded with good actors we find ourselves watching a parody of recent war movies. Things are going bad, so to get the over rated cast of actors to create a quality war film, the desperate director into the wild jungle, leaving them to fend for themselves. The goal is to overwhelm them so they will produce a work of genius, which will be caught on hidden cameras in the area. When the director blows up on an old French land mine, the crew is left on its own, and they start acting, thinking it’s a big set, when things start to get very real. Written, directed, and acted in, by Ben Stiller.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: Rent is over due and Zack and Miri, roommates and good friends, are desperate to make some money. Their solution? Easy, make a dirty movie. Obviously this situation makes for lots of laughs.

I have put together a small selection of the movies released this year (2008). These are some of the movies I found entertaining in this years crop. Hopefully you will see a couple of movies that you will enjoy.

Now he is in a fight for survival, as these paladins try to track him down.

BOLT: Bolt: This film is an animated comedy. The star is dog actor Bolt, who plays the role of a dog that is a super hero dog. His problem is that he honestly believes he is this super hero dog with superpowers. When he is accidently put into a real life situation, he realizes that he is only a normal dog. Now, trying to get back home, he finds help, in the form of a cat named Mittens, and an overweight hampster named Rhino.

THE CHRONICALS OF NARNIA, PRINCE CASPIAN: Just one year has passed in their normal lives when, the four saviors of Narnia, Lucy, Susan, Peter, and Edmund are teleported back to Narnia. Prince Caspian has blownn Susan’s magic horn, praying that he will be saved. In their one year at home, centuries have passed in Narnia, but they have been called back to battle for the freedom of Narnia once again. With the aid of the the bravest in the forrest, including, a dwarf, the centaurs, and a very skilled mouse, they conquer their foes and free Narnia.

WANTED: Wesley Gibson is about to learn that his long lost father is a professional killer. When his father is killed, Wesley is basically forced into the secret society of killers that his father was a part of. He is transformed from a nobody office worker into the professional killer that is in his blood. From that point on, this movie gets extremely complicated. Hang on to your seat.

THE DARK KNIGHT: In this film Batman, and law enforcement officials, have been taking down the criminal elements of the city. Things are going very well, but now a new super criminal arrives on the scene, and attacks the city. Now, Batman really has his hands full, as criminal mastermind, the Joker, has released his criminal insanity on Gotham City.

TWENTY ONE: The basis for this film is the true story about M.I.T. students who created a team of blackjack players that beat the casinos. These wiz kids learned to beat the game, and then performed an assault on the casinos. To play in Las Vegas, where players can be banned for winning with card counting skills, they devised signals, disguises, and even fake drivers liscenses, to keep from being banned. Twenty One is based on the book that explains how these kids took it to the casinos.

10,000 B.C.: This cinematic production sends us back 1,000’s of years. When a warlike tribe storm the Yaghai people, they capture, among others, Evolet. D’Leh, a young hunter who loves Evolet, leads a group of hunters to pursue the warlords, and save her, and the rest of the captured tribe members.

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS: Wild and crazy nights in Las Vegas are normal. Barely remembering what had happened, Jack and Joy get up the next day and find out that they are married. When they win a $3 million jackpot, each thinks they deserve the prize, so they try to settle it in court. The strange ruling is that the two must stay married for a few months, and try to make their marriage work. With lots of money at stake, the battle is on as both want to wind up with all the money.

WALL-E: This picture is an animated, comedy, adventure, sci-fi. Earth has been left behind, an uninhabitale wasteland. Wall-E, a trash collecting robot, is assigned to clean up the mess. When a recon bot (Eve) appears, checking to see if the planet can sustain any life, Wall-E finally has some company. When the spaceship returns for Eve, Wall-E sneaks aboard, and thus starts the adventure of his robot life.

He was a member of a viscious L.A. gang, before final breaking away. When When a chance meeting exposes his whereabouts to his old gang, he finds himself in grave danger. He has no choice but to take a chance, and ensure that the gang can get a huge illegal drug delivery into the country.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK: This movie is about Dr. Bruce Banner, who has become the green Hulk. This feature film is about the comic legend, the Hulk. Key cast members are Edward Norton, Tim Roth and Liv Tyler. This film is directed by Louis Leterrier. The film style is sci-fi/action-thriller.

DECEPTION: Audiitor for the elite, Jonathan McQuarry has an unusual meeting with corporate lawyer Wyatt Bose. This is a meeting that changes his life forever. He is introduced to “The List”, where people find a decadent sexual extasy. Sadly, he is also led into a treacherous game of back stabbing and murder.

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH: On a mission to discover what happened to his missing brother, professor Trevor Anderson explores caves in Iceland that leads him to the center of the earth. This is another version of the original 1959 movie, that was formed from the classic work by renowned author Jules Verne. Cast includes Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutchinson, Anita Briem, and Seth Myers.

THE HAPPENING: Science teacher Elliot Moore, with his wife and many other frightened people are leaving Philadelphia by train. The northeastern U.S. has been thrown into chaos. Many people are being overcome by an unusual force, and are dying at their own hands. Can we find the solution, or is this the last stand of humans on Earth?

IRON MAN: Weapons developer, business mogal, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is taken hostage by Afghan fighters. He is instructed to build missiles for the insurgent group. He sustained injuries while he was being captured, and has metal in his chest. To overcome his wound, and escape his captors, he designs a suit of armor, that makes him super strong. We have a new comic book super hero on the scene.

SPEED RACER: An anime-cartoon gets real actors. Similar to the film The Flinstones, Speed Racer chages a cartoon into a feature film with actors. Young Speed Racer who loves racing. His goal is to win The Crucible, a major rally car race that had taken the life of his older brother. With odds against him, and the future of the family business at risk, Speed Racer teams with his arch rival Racer X, in a last ditch effort to give himself a chance to win, and keep his families racing business alive.

To get better results from the over rated cast of actors to create a quality war film, the frantic, and abused, director Damien Cockburn into the jungle, leaving them to fend for themselves. The plan is to scare them into the realism needed for a graet war film, which hidden cameras will capture. Incredibly, because the director steps on an old land mine and dies, the crew is left on its own, and they think there acting, but the bullets flying are actually real. Stars include Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Cruise.

STEP BROTHERS: When two child like older men, who both live at home with one parent, are going to live in the same bedroom because their parents have wed, big problems loom. Put Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly playing the parts, and this seems to be a great recipe for lots of laughs. This movie is a must see if your looking for some laughs.

ROLE MODELS: Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (William Scott), who promote an energy drink, might be seeing some hard jail time after trashing the company truck. The way they can avoid being locked up is by doing communuty service. The problem is they will need to work as mentors with difficult children in a big brother type situation. A good situation for some good laughs.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: The bills are piling up and Zack and Miri, platonic friends since childhoold, are desperate to make some money. The answer? Oh, thats easy, make pornos. Obviously this situation makes for a fun movie.
