Takeaways Don’t Have To Be Bad For You

Obviously if you will choose something that is greasy and covered in batter, it’s not going to be as good as say a vegetable curry. It’s just about knowing what’s the best foods to eat and what’s the worst while still enjoying your meal.

Here is a little guide to help you choose the healthiest options next time you order in a takeaway.

Fish and Chips: Although you can’t really avoid them, chips tend to be the worst things at chip shops, as for the others, sausages and pies are the other worst offenders. On the other hand, fish tends to be the healthiest items, cod, haddock and plaice and the least fatty of all the fish available.

Pizza: The worst choice you could have would be to have a deep pan base as these contain the most fat. As for the toppings of the pizza, try and stay away from having extra cheesy toppings or things like pepperoni. For more healthy options, choose either fish or vegetables on the top of a thin crust base.

Chinese: Try and stay away from anything that’s greasy and crispy because this means they have been deep fried which is definately not good. The worst items you could get would be sweet and sour battered balls, specially fried rice and spring rolls. As for the best items, it has to be steamed all the way. Choosing items like boiled rice, beef, chicken, crab and corn soup, and steamed vegetables are the best for you.

Indian food, just like Chinese, you should try and keep away from deep fried things and items that are creamy as these will have the most fat. The best ones on the menu would be some sort of vegetable curry, chicken tikka, madras, bhuna. Boiled rice would be the healthiest item to have with these mains.

Hopefully this will make you think twice about you ordering your next large deep pan, stuffed crust, triple cheese, pepperoni pizza. As I was posting this, I realised that I ordered everything from the worst lists, but I supose it’s the same with everything. The stuff that tastes the best, tends to be the worst for us.

A good takeaway can be ordered online quite easily and could for example be found using a search under ‘takeaway Liverpool‘ or ‘Chinese Takeaway Liverpool‘ if that was your preference.
