Our Keys to Success in Business

Posted By Misty Mountain on December 22, 2007 @ 11:49 am

Our organization has been pretty successful this past year.  Whether it was good luck (which I don’t believe in) or good planning, what we have done has been nothing short of amazing.  It has been the best year for us, and let me share our keys to success.

I think the business turned around when we contracted an E-commerce solution provider to help us with our website.  You see, I had been puttering around trying to get the website to work instead of focusing on the business.  Once we had them working on our site, with my extra time I could spend on the business things started turning around.  In fact, we were busier than we had ever been.

So, it was at this point that I decided that maybe I should get rid of other duties I did and pay someone to do them to free up more of my time.  We took advantage of some outsourcing services to take care of our payroll and human resources department.

Perhaps the best decision I made was to use a marketing recruitment firm to find our marketing manager Michelle.  She has got the word out about our business and there is a proven increase in our income since she came aboard.  She has been an invaluable addition to the team.

So, our keys to success in business this year are pretty simple: we hired a specialist to work on our website, we outsourced those tasks we didn’t need to do ourselves, and recruited key management to help move the company forward.  It is just as simple as that.

Something Organic you Cannot Eat

Posted By Misty Mountain on December 20, 2007 @ 7:21 am

It seems like just a short time ago, organic food became popular.  Many benefits such as vitamin content and taste were promoted to us in an effort to help us justify the higher price of these foods.  I know I tried organic fruit and I was hooked – in fact, I never bought "normal" fruit again.

Now it seems there is something else on the market I need to try: organic baby clothing.  For some of you this won’t be new, but it is new to me.  I had never considered that store bought baby clothes had come in contact with hazardous chemicals during their production.  It is sad to think that I would be in fact poisoning my baby each time I got them dressed – how could I do that?

Looking online, I found many sites that sold organic baby clothes.  The styles were no different than regular baby clothes, and from the testimonials I read, people were very happy with them.  I also noticed that they sold organic baby bedding – another place they spend a lot of time.  I placed an order and expect it in a few weeks.  I will feel better once they arrive – I didn’t realize that I was poisoning my baby.

It Pays to Eavesdrop

The other day, I went to my local pharmacy to order Zoloft, when I overheard a conversation between a couple people about ordering prescriptions online. I had never thought of doing this and was wondering about the cost of this service. I love to surf the net and was wondering to myself why I had never thought of checking this out before.

The people that I had overheard were talking about buying Paxil online. I know that is an antidepressant and was wondering if Zoloft was also available online. I decided to look it up on my computer when I got home.

I found out that you can save a lot of money ordering this way. I came across a site that was advertising generic Prozac and decided to see if my particular antidepressant was available in a generic brand. It was and I saved a ton of money by ordering this way.

Not Fat After All

I was going to buy Ephedrine because someone had told me it was effective as an appetite suppressant and I wanted to lose some weight. I thought I should look into it a little bit more before I started popping the pills. I am glad that I did because I decided that it probably wasn’t the most effective thing for me and also that it shouldn’t be mixed with caffeine. I would die without my coffee.

I learned that the most common use was Ephedrine for asthma. I had not known this before and as I did not have asthma, I didn’t think I needed to be taking it for weight loss. Especially when there were other things available that were made specifically for this purpose.

There are different types of the drug and typically people with asthma would take Biotek Ephedrine, but I still didn’t  think it was right for me. I am super glad that I took the time to do the research and have finally decided that maybe I don’t need to lose weight after all. I should just be thankful that I don’t have the need to use Ephedrine for asthma.

Romantic Night Out on the Town

We will be spending a couple of days next month in New York for a business trip.  We will be leaving the kids at home, so it will be a chance for us to have some time away from the kids.  Sure, we are going to be there for business, but that doesn’t mean we will work the whole time we are there.  I thought that we could do something special and romantic.

I figured that we could go out for supper and drive around in a New York Limousine Rental.  Price wise, I heard they were reasonable, and it would be a romantic drive for us.

I called one of my business associates in New York to ask which NYC Limo Rental company was the best.  He didn’t have a concrete answer, but suggested that I could search online for "Prom Limousine New York" and find some good ones (since lots of people rent them for their Prom).

After a search, I booked a Limo for the week that we will be down there.  I also made the reservations for the hotel and restaurant, so everything is booked now.  I wonder if she will catch on to what I am doing – I can’t wait to see her reaction.

The Family Business

Last year, my parents relocated to Spain, where they are successfully running a holiday rentals business. I am planning a trip there this Christmas and I am excited because I have not been yet. I hear that I have so much to see and so many wonderful people to meet.

My parent’s business involves villa rentals and they are hoping to expand it in the near future. I know that this trip is not just for pleasure and that they are going to try and convince mw to move there and help them with the business. I think it is a great opportunity, but I have my life here and it would be hard to give that up.

Part of their plans for expansion involve motorhome rentals. They figure it would give tourists more of an opportunity to see more of the Spanish landscape and to learn more about the country. I think that this is a great idea and I may have to rent one while I am there just to test out how great it would actually be.

As for me moving, I can’t say that I never will because I could very well fall in love with Spain. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Mutual Funds are Not the Best Investments

Posted By Misty Mountain on December 17, 2007 @ 9:18 am

There I’ve said it: mutual funds are not the best investments.  This comes from me who was big into mutual funds just six short years ago.  Now, my stance has not changed because of losing money in the market:  I made money and lost some too.  No, the reason I say this is because I have found some other ways to make money work harder and better for you.  Let me share a few of them here.

Real estate investing is the first one on the list because it is something that everyone needs.  Whether it be a home or some office space, people everywhere need it.  Also, real estate tends to be less volatile than stock markets and have had steady returns over the years.  I also like the idea of control over my investment – if I want to make more money, I can raise rents.

The second option I like is starting a business.  Though this option may require a little more dedication, education, and information than a mutual fund, the returns can be better.  Take for example a website that I setup in June and have done nothing to it since.  My $10 investment has returned $180 a 1800% return over the six months.  What did my mutual funds make?  1.5%.

The third option is one that I don’t recommend that everyone try, and that you only invest a little money.  This investment would be a high yield investment program (HYIP).  Now these investment programs invest your money in the Forex (currency trading) market, or other emerging stock markets around the world.  They typically can earn one or two percent per day of your investment.  Now, I caution you that there are good ones but there are also bad HYIPs that fail.  So, don’t invest all of your nest egg, or money you need to eat, rather make them a small portion of your portfolio – if you win, you win, if you lose, you don’t starve.

Though mutual funds are pushed as the investment of choice, they are not the best investment.  Consider investing in real estate, a business or a HYIP to dramatically increase the returns on your portfolio.

Maximize Your Time as a Entrepreneur

Sometimes I feel a little frustrated that there are only 24 hours in the day.  It is even more frustrating that I need to sleep there too, so that leaves me with only 16 hours in a day.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for me, I have too many ideas for businesses that need to be developed.  The catch is there is not enough time to do everything, so I have to make some executive decisions as to which ones I develop, and the ones that I shelve.

One thing that I have found that helps me to get more ideas developed is using outsourcing.  I am not a perfectionist, so I do not need to do everything, so paying someone to do tedious or easy tasks makes more sense.  Sadly, it took me about two years to realize this, but I have benefited from this new perspective when it comes to my business.

For example, I used to a free directory submission each day.  It would take me about an hour to submit my site to about fifteen directories at a time, and I only was able to do one submission for each of my sites per week.  Those seven hours per day were just the amount of time that I could create a quality content site – and I was losing that each week.  If each of those sites could conservatively generate just $50 per month, I was throwing away $30,000 in potential income.

So, I found a place that had a directory submission service – for a small fee, they would submit my sites to free directories and free up my time to make more sites.  Is it worth it?  You bet.

There are always ways to improve your operation whether you are an online or offline business.  You should take the time to find them and watch your productivity and profits soar.

Failure Is Not an Option

I run a wholesale western business, specializing in clothing and accessories. I sell most of my inventory to retailers, but also to a lot of friends and acquaintances. I do quite well for myself and we have an ever-changing selection of inventory available.

I recently started selling cowboy logo T-shirts and they have been moving very quickly. I love it when I find a product that is on high demand. The T-shirts, I have to admit, sold a lot more quickly than I expected them to and I had to place a second order for them two days after the first one arrived.

I usually try to reward myself with something that I have been saving for if I make my projected sales in a month. This has been a great month and I am so happy that I get to reward myself with a couple of new runner rugs for my ranch house. I love it when I am successful, as I have so many goals with so many rewards, that failure is not an option.

Trying New Things

Looking into acne treatment alternatives the other day, I came across some interesting and valuable information. While I always like to find a natural remedy for everything from laryngitis to pink eye, I never cease to be amazed at the healing properties of vitamins and that one single vitamin can have so many uses.

Vitamin B5 is essential for body growth and reproduction and I never would have guessed that it was an effective acne treatment as well. Although one must be careful not to take too much, as the body does not break it down, taking small doses of it, on top of what you get from diet, will help effectively treat acne.

I found a treatment called Vilantae that is made from Vitamin B5 and was created primarily as an acne treatment. Upon doing more research, I would be willing to give it a try. Since it is natural, it certainly can’t hurt.
