For the longest time, I have been following one method to promote my websites. Basically, what I have been doing is promoting the main page through forums, blog posts, web directories and social marketing, but I have been neglecting deep links to my site.
A deep link is a link to an inner page of your site. For example, promoting the page that has this blog post on it, I would be getting deep links. The benefit here is that search engines can tell that you are obviously promoting your site if all the links point to your main page. If there are links sprinkled amongst all your pages it looks more natural and can help you with your rankings.
I have found a general directory or two that do accept deep links, but most of these only offer a deep linking option on paid listings, not free ones. If you have a marketing budget that is okay, but for those of you that do not, it is not an option.
Another option besides using a links directory is blog commenting. Most blogs allow you to specify a website for your comments, and this is where you should be using a page of your site, not just the main page. You will find that this method works great, and can give you good targeted traffic if you comment on pages that are related to your site.
Be sure to promote all pages of your site and don’t make the same mistakes I did by neglecting the promotion of my inner pages. Look for web directories and blogs that allow you to make comments - these are the easiest places to promote the inner pages of your site.
